Approximately fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered multiple other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests suggest the substance was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; officials are presently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the residents for information.
A high-ranking representative stated the attack rendered him stunned and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, recalling the death of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
