The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. The British racer, who took the championship lead from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s. Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT. Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, lying with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his team followed a different programme. His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he lost control at Turn Four during the early running. Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the escape zone, and was lucky to get away with just a slight brush of the fence. Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the practice, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner leading to the final corner on to the start-finish straight. Hamilton finished practice in P19, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc. The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's car P3, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's pace. The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
