Micky van de Ven found the net twice as Spurs prolonged their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and delivered Everton their initial loss at their new home.

The Toffees were undefeated in their last five matches at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed their historic home behind after more than a century at the conclusion of last season.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman struck on two occasions from corners in the opening 45 minutes to place their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were failed to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - set up by ex-Everton forward the Brazilian - headed home a third to put the game to bed.

Jake O'Brien thought he had equalized the tally a short while after Van de Ven's first goal, glancing a bullet header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, missed a handful of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of excellent saves to guarantee the London club went five away games unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, instructing Craig Pawson to review the goal on the screen and the official ruled that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had interfered with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory elevates Thomas Frank's side into third place in the division, five points off local foes and table-toppers the Gunners.

Everton stay 14th and are half a dozen points clear of the drop zone.

Spurs breakdown: Van de Ven fulfils role at each end of pitch

After a drab weekday performance in the European competition against the French side, where they mustered a mere two shots on goal, Frank opted for Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The summer signing was failed to make much of an impact before being replaced for the substitute after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it emerged he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Defender Van de Ven transformed into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's opening strike came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with the midfielder heading the ball toward the face of goal for an unmarked the defender to score.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as captain in the Argentine's unavailability - added his second in added time as he outjumped Jordan Pickford to nod in.

The Dutchman was equally outstanding in defence, partnering effectively with his defensive colleague as the duo dealt superbly with the numerous deliveries thrown their way by Everton.

Toffees breakdown: Toffees lacking finishing touch

The club's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it appears the freshness may have faded somewhat and supporters flocked to the gates after Sarr's final goal for Tottenham.

The break in the team's unbeaten home run won't be a major worry for David Moyes, but their attacking woes will be.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Everton's two established strikers - had scored just one league goal between them before the weekend's match.

And they were failed to contribute to that miserable record on a wet and gloomy night on in Liverpool.

Beto's form was summed up when he chose to bicycle-kick a clear chance from close range, despite having space and time to reposition for a more conventional attempt that would have challenged Vicario.

Barry, as well, failed to make an impact after coming on for the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a lack of opportunity. Most of the home side's offensive moves came through the winger and the forward, who relentlessly whipped threatening balls into the Tottenham box.
